are you fluent or plain incomprehensible?
    Friday, May 30, 2008 (3:39 PM)

it's funny how some people misinterprete fluency in a language as speed and inaudibility. i went for an interview some days ago with a japanese speaker and as much as i believe that she has a very good knowledge and mastery of the language, it somehow seems that she was more keen on speed than clarity.

i have to admit that after 4 years of not using japanese, i'm so rusty, a tetanus jab is not going to help if i cut you by accident. but when i requested for the interviewer to repeat, she was more incomprehensible than fluent. the rush to finish the sentence could be felt. i swear my hair rustled.

    Monday, May 26, 2008 (11:06 AM)

was at yishun 88 coffeeshop with max and aaron last night. as soon as we settled down, the drinks stall auntie came over and asked what we'd like to drink.

    aaron: teh-c 三杯
    auntie: O_O!
    me: huh?
    auntie: O_O!
    me: haha... 不要
    auntie: ok

soon after, the auntie arrived with the drinks...

    quantum leap
    Sunday, May 25, 2008 (12:24 AM)

i was watching eureka quite some time ago and like all other shows on scientific breakthroughs, quantum physics was the central mechanic working the show. at least that was what it seemed to me.

somewhere at the end of the season, a living paradox occurs when one scientist went back in time to save his wife. thus, the revelation of 2 of his wife's existence created the paradox. a charred body and a living one. in order to fix this paradox, the male protagonist was sent back in time to prevent the scientist from saving his wife. from then, he lived a different life and never returned to where he came from. the show supposedly allowed that to go as a happy ending. but a problem occurs which wasn't dealt with. wouldn't that time have another paradox where 2 of the male protagonist exist?

an even older show called quantum leap kinda explained the concept of quantum physics but when you talk of quantum leap, it seems to me that a paradox is bound to happen. but oddly, none of them deals with the same concept on the same basis. most do not talk of paradoxes, which was the main idea of "changing history". because if you "change history" and paradoxes occur, then wouldn't it be futile to even deal with quantum physics at all? eureka seemed to have attempted a really complex issue.

one last question. are the physicists of today really that obsessed about quantum physics?

    it's business time!

    wasted week(s)
    Thursday, May 22, 2008 (5:07 PM)

i kinda wasted 2 weeks of my life not doing much work. the freelance assignments are bringing in lesser and lesser bread. it was good money but i haven't even received my 2nd pay, which was submitted more than 2 weeks ago. and i haven't received any assignments for the past 2 weeks. T_T

林北博及le (i no money le)

but last week was well-spent going out with friends for pool, bowling, arcade, ktv. yes, now you know how much i've been spending. not forgetting an air ticket to taiwan this august. we probably chose the wrong time. mid-summer is about the worst time to visit taiwan. it's freaking hot and fraught with threats of typhoon and potential rain. i know the weather sounds uber contradictory. i didn't come up with that.

best writes is not getting enough students and i guess i'll have to land myself a permanent job soon unless i can figure some other plans for this business. i have tried approaching some schools to provide edusave programs but i haven't heard from them for a week. if you have other suggestions how i can fetch enough revenue to sustain this biz, do let me know. i'm targetting $30k for the financial year. if not, i'll have to run something else.

i've been sending out resumes for the past few days and haven't heard from anyone. i'm not looking towards teaching. neither am i looking towards insurance. how can i convince people of their plans when i myself am repulsive of it?

    bowling trip
    (12:06 AM)

how often do you end up playing pool on a bowling trip?

it seems that the number of devout buddhists are declining quite rapidly. no one goes to the temple on vesak day. everyone goes to the bowling alley. bowling is becoming a religion. O_O!

90 on waiting list at downtown east
30 on waiting list at kallang leisure park
    textile centre closed down

we ended up at paradiz centre pool. it was fun though. thanks to bryan's car. =D

    Thursday, May 15, 2008 (7:58 PM)

    speak more clearly!
    Thursday, May 08, 2008 (8:18 PM)

i happened to come across this website at the google advert on my blog that's called

'dabew dabew dabew [dod] speak more clearly [dod] com'

the purpose of the package that they are selling is to teach you a british or american accent. i wonder what the purpose of getting a british or american accent is.

why should we, or anyone at all, get a british or american accent? do they feel superior? do they feel that it is better? what makes an accent better than others? according to the website, having a british or american accent helps us to be better understood. but why don't they learn our accent and understand us? ethnocentrism is at work again.

to add insult to injury, they have a speech therapist, which suggests that our accent is a problem that requires a therapist to fix.

maybe we should start a site that says hearmoreclearly.com. learn our accent and better understand us!

    when love becomes hate
    Thursday, May 01, 2008 (1:06 PM)

i'm beginning to develop a repulsion of music on websites, blogs and whatever that you can reach with triple w. it really is fine for music to be available on the sites, but please don't let it run on page load. i do not enjoy frantically scrolling the roller on my mouse searching for the stop button when i am running my own music on my media player. neither do i enjoy stopping the music i am listening to and find the player on the site. much less do i enjoy being frightened by 2 songs going on at the same time while i look like an idiot trying to figure out for a few seconds if they were from the same song.

but if you still insist on music on your site, it really is fine. it is afterall, your site. my worst nightmare is those who embed music and either refuse to or have no technical know-how to display the controls for optional stopping of music. in that case, i'd rather skip the site.
